Anti-Christian Outcry and Flag Burning: The 2004 Tilos Rádió Incident

In January 2004, Hungary was gripped by a major scandal after a host at the alternative Tilos Rádió made a violent anti-Christian remark during a Christmas broadcast. In response, thousands of conservative protesters gathered at the station's Budapest headquarters. The demonstration turned hostile as participants pelted the building and, in a move that sparked international outrage, burned an Israeli flag. This act, fuelled by far-right sentiment, drew sharp condemnation from the Israeli Embassy and overshadowed the domestic media dispute. Ultimately, the station received a 30-day suspension.
