Antisemitic and Anti-Israel Posters in Budapest
Anonymous posters flooded Budapest: they depicted two journalists from Index – at the time one of the most prominent independent media outlets – standing in front of an Israeli flag, accusing them of “treason” and “anti-Hungarian sentiments.” The campaign followed smear attacks by government-organized media and the far-right Mi Hazánk party. Widely condemned – including by Israel’s embassy – the posters invoked classic antisemitic tropes about dual loyalty. The perpetrators were never identified, and no substantive investigation followed.
