Attack on a Rabbi in Árkád shopping mall

In April 2018, a Canadian rabbi visiting Budapest was assaulted in a shop in the Árkád mall. A man struck the rabbi, knocked his kippah off his head, and then fled the scene. Police quickly identified and arrested the perpetrator, who was charged with violence against a member of a community. Although the court confirmed the antisemitic motive, the act was downgraded to a misdemeanour, as it was judged that there was insufficient evidence of disturbance to public order.
