Compensation Law for Holocaust Survivors

Hungary adopted a 1997 law granting life pensions to Holocaust survivors over age 60, finally recognising deportation, forced labour, and family loss under the Paris Peace Treaty framework. Following years of legal disputes and inadequate earlier measures, the law marked a delayed but significant shift toward state acknowledgement of Jewish suffering, despite criticism that compensation remained limited and long overdue.
