Establishment of the Hungarian Guard Movement

Founded on 25 August 2007, by the far-right Jobbik party, the Hungarian Guard was a radical right-wing paramilitary group whose black uniforms and symbols were reminiscent of the Arrow Cross Party. According to their own definition, it was composed of patriotic, action-oriented people organized to fight crime; in reality, they primarily threatened the Roma population through intimidation and displays of force, while the movement’s symbolism and rhetoric also clearly operated with anti-Semitic undertones. Although the Hungarian Guard was banned in 2009, its members remained active for a long time within the framework of other far-right organizations, contributing to the normalization of extremist narratives and the spread of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories..
