First Deportation Transports to Auschwitz

On 29–30 April 1944, the first transports of Hungarian Jews were sent to Auschwitz from Kistarcsa and Bačka Topola under SS control and with Hungarian police involvement. Of the 3,800 deported, only around 1,100 were selected for forced labour; 2,698 were murdered on arrival in the gas chambers.
