Hungary Joins the Axis Powers

By signing the Tripartite Pact on 20 November 1940, Hungary aligned itself fully with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Axis membership deepened Hungary’s political and military dependence on Germany, accelerating the adoption of antisemitic laws, forced-labour policies, and wartime measures that would later facilitate the mass deportation of Hungarian Jews in 1944.
