Jewish Labour Service at the Don

Between 1942 and 1943, approximately 39,000 Jewish men were deployed to the Eastern Front as forced labourers for the Hungarian 2nd Army. Stripped of military rank and marked with yellow or white armbands, these men were subjected to 700-kilometer marches, starvation, and extreme exposure to extreme winter weather. At the Don, laborers worked 14–16 hour days in -30°C temperatures, often clearing minefields or digging trenches in frozen earth while facing systematic torture and theft of rations by their guards.
