Law on the Israelite Religion

Act VIII of 1942 downgraded Judaism from an “established” to a merely “recognised” religion, reversing its 1895 legal status. Beyond symbolic degradation, the law withdrew state funding for Jewish social and educational institutions, further isolating Hungary’s Jewish community under the increasingly antisemitic Horthy regime.
