Novi Sad massacre

Following intense fighting with partisans, Hungarian occupational authorities began raiding towns and villages in the southern part of the occupied Yugoslav territory of Bačka on 6 January, to suppress partisan resistance. On 20 January, Novi Sad was surrounded and placed under curfew. Although the raid was ordered to end on the evening of the 23rd, purges continued until the 26th. Raids resulted in the deaths of 3,000–4,000 civilians, primarily Serbs, but also around 1,000 Jews.
