Skinhead Attack in Gyöngyös

A group of 10–12 skinheads marched through Gyöngyös shouting antisemitic slogans and songs. When university student Tamás Horváth confronted them, identifying himself as Jewish, one assailant broke his nose. Police launched a hate-crime investigation. The incident reflected rising post-transition extremism, with explicit antisemitic hostility emerging amid economic decline in Hungary’s northeastern regions.
