Creation of the Jewish Center (Ústredňa Židov)

The Slovak government established the Jewish Center (ÚŽ) in 1940 to administer Jewish affairs under state control. In practice, bodies like ÚŽ became instruments through which persecution was operationalised: registration, welfare under imposed scarcity, and later logistical demands tied to forced labour and deportation systems. Its creation marks an important institutional turning point—persecution became bureaucratically routinised, not only ideological.
