Deportations halted: ~24,000 Jews remain in Slovakia

In autumn 1942, after reports reached the Slovak government that deportees were being murdered, President Tiso hesitated and then refused to deport the remaining Jews at that time. The pause did not end persecution—labour camps, hiding, and coercion continued—but it changed the tempo of mass removal until 1944. This also helps explain why survival patterns differ between those deported in 1942 and those still present later.
