First official transport leaves Poprad for Auschwitz

Slovakia’s first official transport to Auschwitz left from Poprad on 25 March 1942, widely commemorated as a foundational event of the Slovak Holocaust. The transport is often associated with young Jewish women and girls, illustrating how deportations targeted not only “able-bodied men” but whole demographic categories and families. This moment marks the operational start of mass deportation from Slovakia into the extermination system.
