Antisemitism

Beginning of October ‘56

After the death of Stalin (1953) and later Bierut (March 1956), the political climate in Poland began to relax. The Soviet “thaw” under Khrushchev encouraged debate, and there was growing criticism of Stalinism in Poland. Social tensions escalated: workers increasingly protested not only economic hardships, but also the rigid party orthodoxy and past repressions.
