Inspired by Timothy McVeigh
The online radicalization of young people with personal and psychological problems into violent extremism has become a serious issue in the Czech Republic. In 2021, two young men, influenced by hateful ideologies including neo-Nazism, began preparing a terrorist attack modeled on Timothy McVeigh’s 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Their plan involved placing a truck loaded with explosives near selected targets, including foreign embassies and a company headquarters, timed symbolically for April 19, 2025. They collected photographs of intended sites and even tested explosives, but were intercepted by security forces before the attack could proceed. During trial, the court confirmed their antisemitic views and hostility toward multiple groups, yet both ultimately received suspended sentences. The case underscored the difficulty of detecting radicalized individuals and small extremist cells before they act.
„According to the witness, the juvenile did not view the world normally. He had long-standing reservations about Roma and other races, about black people. The juvenile vented that he did not like gypsies, and that they should be gassed, in his opinion. He also did not like black people. The juvenile had reservations about Jews. As for pornography, the juvenile believed that it was a tool for controlling humanity, that it was an addiction. He also had reservations about Muslims.“
