Liquidation of the Theresienstadt Family Camp

On the night of 8–9 March, the SS murdered 3,792 Jews from the Theresienstadt Family Camp in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau—the largest single mass killing of Czechoslovak Jews. Survivors recalled how, as a final act of collective resistance and identity, the victims sang the Czechoslovak national anthem and the song "Hatikva"—which later became the national anthem of the State of Israel—as they entered the gas chambers.
