Attack on a Roma Charity Event in Kalocsa

On 1 May 1995, far-right wing youths—many identified as skinheads—attacked a peaceful Roma charity event in Kalocsa, assaulting attendees, harassing elders, and shouting racist slogans. Although witnesses reported clear hate speech, police downplayed racial motives. The attack deepened fear among Roma residents and highlighted rising nationalist antigypsy violence in post-transition Hungary.
