Beginning of Socialist Assimilation Policy

Following the communist takeover, minority policy was fundamentally restructured. Roma were no longer recognised as a distinct ethnic group but were redefined as a socially backward segment of the working class to be assimilated into socialist society. This ideological shift framed Roma marginalisation as a problem of class and productivity rather than racism, legitimising policies that erased Roma identity, restricted cultural expression, and imposed assimilation as a state objective.
