Deportation from Bicsérd

In the early morning hours of 4 November 1944, the gendarmerie deported the entire Roma population of Bicsérd to the Csillagerőd fortress in Komárom, which served as an internment camp for Jews, Roma, and political prisoners. regardless of age or gender. The operation was fuelled by hateful propaganda that labelled the Roma as 'parasites,' paving the way for their exclusion and eventual deportation. The action was accompanied by institutionalized looting: authorities inventoried victims' abandoned livestock and belongings, then distributed them among local residents.
