Establishment of the Central Office for Jewish Emigration

A Central Office supervised Jewish emigration, forcing applicants to surrender most of their property and pay high fees. Between 1939 and 1941, around 26,000 Jews emigrated legally and roughly 4,000 fled illegally. Emigration was framed as “voluntary,” but functioned as coerced dispossession and removal.
