Gábor Vona becomes president of the Jobbik party

Following the party's failure to gain a parliamentary seat in the 2006 general election, Gábor Vona was elected party president on 25 November 2006. He transformed the radical conservative party into a far-right party, focusing on nationalist, antigypsy, antisemitic, anti-globalist and anti-EU messages, and forming alliances with extreme right vigilante groups.
