Hungary Joins the Axis Powers

When Hungary signed the Tripartite Pact on 20 November 1940, aligning fully with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, Roma communities came under tightening racial control. Axis integration accelerated discriminatory policing, forced labour measures, and preparations for wartime mobilisation, deepening the vulnerability of Roma already targeted under Horthy-era policies.
