Killing of Emil Bendik in Klatovy

A mob of local residents attacked a Roma family’s home in Klatovy after circulating rumours that framed them as criminals. Twenty-two-year-old Emil Bendik was brutally beaten and died two days later. Although several attackers were sentenced for assault, courts ignored the clear antigypsyist motive, including a threatening letter signed “Ku Klux Klan,” deepening community mistrust.
