Dangerous Terrormachine
The attack in Aš occurred during a period when branches of international neo‑Nazi networks were actively operating in the Czech Republic. Among the most prominent was Blood & Honour Division Bohemia and its militant offshoot Combat 18, whose members in the border regions sometimes invoked a “Sudeten” identity. Under the direction of the group’s Prague‑based leader, militants in the borderlands were urged to carry out violent actions. In February 2012, two members responded by preparing Molotov cocktails and attempting to set fire to a hostel primarily inhabited by Roma families. Residents extinguished the flames, preventing casualties. Both perpetrators were later convicted of attempted murder, while other members of Blood & Honour/Combat 18 received sentences as part of an organized group promoting neo‑Nazism. These prosecutions led to the suppression of the organization’s activities in the Czech Republic.
„Then, both men turned and slowly ran out of the hostel’s courtyard. The one who had thrown the bottle at Mr. D. window pushed it away slightly as they passed, and both men ran away along the path between the garages. The witness then tried to call for help, wake up the residents of the hostel, and put out the fire at the entrance of the hostel and the still-burning plastic bottle. Mr. H. put out the burning carpet behind the front door, then Mr. G. appeared on the scene and unlocked the grille at the entrance.“
