Liquidation of the Auschwitz “Gypsy camp”

On the night of 2 August 1944, roughly 3,000 Roma and Sinti—mostly women, children and the elderly—were gassed during the liquidation of the Auschwitz “Gypsy family camp.” This act represented the culmination of the Nazi genocide against Roma and Sinti, including those deported from the Protectorate, where only a fraction survived.
