Murder of Zoltán Danyi in Salgótarján

On 6 November 1992, 32-year-old Roma man Zoltán Danyi was beaten to death by a group of skinheads after leaving a pub in Salgótarján. Police arrested several youths, two of whom confessed, yet authorities initially avoided calling it a hate crime. The attack was explicitly racist, deepening fear among Roma communities and highlighting official reluctance to confront rising antigypsy violence in post-communist Hungary.
