Overcrowding and mass death in Theresienstadt

By September 1942, around 60,000 Jews were crammed into Theresienstadt, up from 13,000 in April. Overcrowding, hunger and disease caused a drastic mortality spike, with 3,976 deaths recorded that month alone. These conditions formed part of the genocidal policy, killing many even before deportation to extermination camps.
