Population control in healthcare policy towards Roma

Health organisations in Baranya County developed a three-year plan to promote the use of mechanical birth control among Roma women of childbearing age who already had three children, with the aim of reducing the birth rates. This approach was also reflected more broadly within the healthcare system at the time. Contemporary documents included expressions such as: “The very good news is the fact that the advance of urbanization and the gradual transformation of lifestyle will bring about a gradual decline in [Gypsy] births.”
