Postwar Neglect of Roma Suffering

In the immediate aftermath of World War II, Roma survivors in Slovakia received little to no recognition for the persecution they had endured during the war. Experiences of forced labour, internment, displacement, and mass killings were largely excluded from official commemorations and compensation frameworks. Unlike Jewish survivors, Roma were rarely acknowledged as victims of racial persecution, reinforcing social exclusion and signalling that their suffering was not considered a priority for postwar justice or restitution.
