Prime Minister Viktor Orbán publicly questioned a court ruling regarding state compensation for segregated Roma pupils

During his annual press conference, Prime Minister Orbán questioned the court ruling in the Gyöngyöspata segregation lawsuit, which required the state to pay compensation to the families of Roma pupils who were segregated at the local primary school between 2004 and 2017. Orbán described the ruling as “deeply unfair” and said that it violated people's sense of justice because “members of an ethnically dominant group will receive a significant amount of money without having to do any work”, while others “work hard all day”. He also questioned whether the term 'segregation' had been clearly defined.
