Segregation of Roma in Special Settlements

The Slovak government expanded the system of segregated Roma settlements, relocating families to isolated areas with inadequate housing and sanitation. These settlements formalised social exclusion and reinforced the perception of Roma as a separate and inferior population. Legal segregation at this stage laid the groundwork for later violent repression and deportations.
