Soviet Occupation of Hungary

The Red Army completed its takeover of Hungary on 4 April 1945, ending months of brutal fighting. Soviet troops committed widespread violence and deported many civilians to labour camps. For persecuted Roma, Soviet arrival often meant survival — a perception later distorted into accusations of “collaboration.”
