The assassination of Reinhard Heydrich and the subsequent repression

The Czechoslovak paratroopers trained in Great Britain assassinated the Deputy Protector of Bohemia and Moravia Reinhard Heydrich in Prague-Libeň. On 4 June, Heydrich died of the consequences of the assassination in the Bulovka hospital. The Nazi regime's response was extensive repression of the Czech population. After Heydrich’s death, Kurt Daluege (1897-1946) was appointed Deputy Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, who immediately declared martial law upon his arrival. Part of the repression (the so-called Heydrichiad) was the extermination of the villages of Lidice (9 and 10 June) and Ležáky (24 June).
