Rasizm i upokorzenie w areszcie
Wydarzenia z 4–6 lipca 2001 r. rozpoczęły się po interwencji policji w Magnezitovcach i zatrzymaniu Karola Sendreia seniora oraz dwóch jego synów. Zeznania relacjonowane w słowackich mediach opisywały długotrwałą przemoc i poniżające traktowanie w areszcie, w tym krępowanie i wielokrotne bicie. Nadużycia obejmowały także jawne antycygańskie upokarzanie: mężczyźni mieli być zmuszani do śpiewania i obrażania samych siebie na tle rasowym, co pokazywało, że przemoc była wymierzona zarówno w ich romską tożsamość.
