Assassination of Heydrich and subsequent reprisals

Heydrich’s assassination triggered brutal reprisals against the Czech population, including the destruction of Lidice and Ležáky. Though targeting primarily Czechs, the atmosphere of terror enabled the SS and Protectorate police to intensify racial measures against Roma, accelerating preparations for the “Gypsy camps” and deportations to Auschwitz.
